Since Queensland hosted Expo ’88, South Bank has become Queensland’s most loved people’s place. And 30 years on, we want to make it even better.
South Bank today
South Bank is one of Brisbane’s favourite places. It is a place for everyone. It boasts much-loved riverfront parklands that are activated by retail, and world-renowned cultural, exhibition and education facilities that host about 14 million visitors a year.
South Bank contributed $906 million to Queensland’s economy in 2016-17, with 9,404 full-time equivalent jobs across retail, commercial, residential, education, accommodation, cultural, tourism, events and knowledge industries. It’s also home to a community of residents who live within the precinct.
South Bank Corporation
In 1989, South Bank Corporation was established as the development and management authority and creative force, behind Brisbane's iconic riverfront destination, South Bank. South Bank Corporation is set up under a unique act of the Queensland Parliament called the South Bank Corporation Act 1989 and has planning responsibility for the 42 hectares of land that make up the precinct.
South Bank for the future
South Bank Corporation will create a new master plan for the next 30 years. The Future South Bank master plan will ensure South Bank remains Brisbane’s favourite destination and continue to meet the needs of the community in a changing world.
